Sadly, these staggering numbers are simply budget authority-- they do not completely reflect the increasing practice of placing tens of billions of dollars in routine and predictable spending, like FEMA and military operations overseas, outside of normal budget accounting.
Even worse, this budget, as enormous as it is, is not enough. The Senate has already "busted" this proposed budget by adding more than $6 billion in new social spending, and some Capitol Hill observers doubt the President's budget will ever become law.

Six billion is nothing.
Yeah, and when we say that about each budget item individually, we end up with a $2.8 trillion budget!
So why attack the tiny portion of the budget actually meant to help people? Keep your eyes on the prize... interest on the debt and the cost of military.
...Or attack wasteful pork like that stupid bridge to nowhere in Alaska. Or how about the cost of keeping non-violent drug "offenders" behind bars?
Why pick on food stamps and heating assistance? It's totally disproportionate.
